IPAF training in Riyadh, KSA – scissor lift and boom lift courses by Etihad Pioneers

IPAF training teaches operators and supervisors to use mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), such as scissor lifts and boom lifts, safely and confidently. At Etihad Pioneers Training Academy in Riyadh, every course combines classroom theory with hands-on machine time. As a result, delegates leave ready to work safely at height on real job sites.

We deliver IPAF training to contractors, facilities teams and industrial sites across Saudi Arabia. Courses run at our Riyadh facility or, alternatively, on-site at your project or construction yard in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and beyond.

Why IPAF Training Matters on Saudi Job Sites

Construction and giga-projects across Saudi Arabia rely heavily on powered access equipment. However, MEWP incidents such as overturns, entrapment and falls from the platform can be fatal. For this reason, many main contractors now require operators to hold IPAF training before they use a lift on site.

The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) sets internationally recognised training standards for powered access. Consequently, IPAF-trained operators are accepted by contractors across the region.

How Our IPAF Training Works

Each course follows a clear structure:

  1. Classroom theory. First, trainers explain MEWP categories, hazards, safety rules and operator responsibilities.
  2. Machine familiarisation. Next, delegates learn the controls, safety devices and emergency systems on the actual machine.
  3. Practical operation. Then delegates operate the MEWP themselves under close supervision, including positioning and manoeuvring tasks.
  4. Theory and practical tests. Finally, delegates complete a written test and a practical test with the trainer.

IPAF 3a Training (Mobile Vertical / Scissor Lifts)

This course trains operators to use scissor lifts and other mobile vertical platforms safely.

Ideal for: construction workers, electricians, maintenance staff and facilities teams.

What delegates learn:

  • Pre-use inspections and, in particular, function checks before every shift
  • Ground conditions, slopes and, as a result, how to avoid overturning
  • Driving and positioning the platform safely, especially in tight spaces
  • Overhead hazards, such as beams, cables and ceilings
  • Emergency lowering from both the platform and ground controls
  • Safe parking and securing the machine after use

IPAF 3b Training (Mobile Boom / Boom Lifts)

This course trains operators to use articulated and telescopic boom lifts safely.

Ideal for: steel erectors, façade installers, electricians and maintenance technicians.

What delegates learn:

  • Pre-use inspections and stability checks
  • Boom movements and, more importantly, how they affect machine stability
  • Positioning the machine and platform close to the work area
  • Avoiding entrapment and crushing hazards, for example against structures overhead
  • Wearing, inspecting and attaching a fall restraint harness correctly
  • Emergency lowering procedures and rescue from the ground

MEWPs for Managers Training

This course is aimed at people who plan and supervise MEWP work rather than operate the machines.

Ideal for: site managers, supervisors, HSE officers and project engineers.

What delegates learn:

  • Selecting the right MEWP for the task
  • Planning MEWP work and, in addition, carrying out risk assessments
  • Ground conditions, outrigger loads and site layout
  • Rescue planning, so an emergency plan is ready before work starts
  • Supervising operators and, finally, monitoring safe working practices

Who Should Attend

IPAF training suits anyone who operates or supervises powered access equipment, for example:

  • Construction and civil contractors
  • Electrical and mechanical (MEP) teams
  • Facilities management and maintenance staff
  • Event, exhibition and warehouse teams
  • Supervisors and HSE officers on giga-projects

Training Delivery Options

  • Classroom and practical training at our Riyadh facility
  • On-site training at your project or yard anywhere in Saudi Arabia
  • English or Arabic delivery, depending on your team
  • Small groups, so every delegate gets enough time on the machine

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IPAF PAL Card?
The Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card is issued by IPAF to operators who successfully complete an IPAF course. It shows which MEWP categories the holder is trained to operate and is valid for five years.

Is the IPAF PAL Card accepted in Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Major contractors and industrial projects across Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province widely recognise the PAL Card.

How long does IPAF training take?
Most IPAF operator courses take one day per category. Delegates can, however, combine categories such as 3a and 3b in a longer course.

Where is IPAF training conducted in Saudi Arabia?
We deliver IPAF training at our Riyadh facility. Alternatively, we can train your team on-site at your construction yard or project anywhere in Saudi Arabia.
